Traverse City Horse Shows Kicks Off the Spring Series Presented by Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel

The 2024 Traverse City Horse Shows season begins on June 5, featuring the Traverse City Spring Series, presented by Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel. The longstanding partnership has transformed the event, positioning Northern Michigan as a top-tier destination for equestrian enthusiasts. The partnership has led to significant advancements, including the introduction of the Traverse City Spring Series in 2020 and an increase in prize money to over $7 million per year. This progress has enhanced the horse show and elevated the region’s global recognition within the horse sport industry.

The collaboration with Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel and Grand Traverse Resort and Spa attracts nearly 4,000 athletes annually and enriches the experience for horse competitors and their families. Located just a short drive from the showgrounds, these partners’ luxury accommodations and exceptional amenities — including world-class golf courses, relaxing spa services, diverse dining options, and vibrant nightlife — create a comprehensive and luxurious experience. These offerings significantly enhance the appeal of the horse shows as a premier summer destination.

“This year marks a decade that we have had the privilege to be a sponsor, partner, and neighbor with Traverse City Horse Shows. They have truly helped to put Northern Michigan on the map as a premiere destination for the very best in equestrian events and venues in the country, presenting our region like it has never been before,” says Rich Bailey, CEO for Grand Traverse Resort & Casinos. “The partnership has not only helped increase area tourism but has also helped to showcase the heritage and culture of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians through cultural exhibitions and installations to guests from 47 states and 24 countries.”

Exciting Lineup Ahead

This season promises continued excellence with the $120,000 Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel CSI3* Grand Prix on June 9, spearheading an exciting three-week series. The series features all levels of competition from beginners to the grand prix while honoring the heritage and positive impact of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. Events such as the USHJA International Hunter Derby Regional Championship, the $182,000 Southern Arches CSI4* Grand Prix, the $100,000 WCHR Hunter Spectacular presented by Debbie Smith, and the $75,000 Molon Excavating CSI2* Grand Prix showcase the diverse talent the complete circuit attracts.

“We are excited to kick off a new season, one that highlights our ongoing partnership with the Grand Traverse Band and its enterprises,” says Matt Morrissey, Event Director at TCHS. “This collaboration enriches our events and contributes immensely to the community growing around the show.”
