Show jumping usually comes down to one rider and one horse. Major League Show Jumping adds teammates, strategy, and a season-long championship—and gives fans another reason to choose a side.
During week two of the Tournament of Champions, Traverse City Horse Shows hosts the second stop of Major League Show Jumping’s sixth season. The event brings five-star competition — the sport’s highest international star rating — and some of the world’s best riders and horses to Flintfields Horse Park.
Friday features the team competition, followed by an individual Grand Prix on Saturday.
Eight teams. Three rounds. One winner.
Each team has six international riders, with three selected to compete at each stop. Choosing who rides—and who gets the call for the final round—is part of the strategy.
All eight teams begin Friday’s competition with three riders each. The top four advance to a faster second round, with two riders representing each team. Then one rider from each remaining team takes on the medal round: the top two teams compete for gold and silver, while the next two battle for bronze.
In that final round, every rail knocked down adds three seconds to the clock. Fastest time wins.

An early test in Traverse City
With Traverse City coming just one week after the season opens in Toronto, teams will be looking to build momentum or make up ground. Points earned here count toward a championship that continues across North America.
Saturday’s Grand Prix shifts the focus to individual competition, with $340,000 on the line.
